TWA lobbies for Women's empowerment

On the occasion of the 48th anniversary of the Tibetan Democracy Day, the Kashag reiterated its conviction to create an equal society to ensure the successful working of a democratic society. TWA sees this as a benchmark initiative towards empowering Tibetan women and TWA finds this proposed policy as highly laudable and indeed imperative, albeit it has for long been overdue.

Sensing the dire need for encouraging Tibetan women on the political and social front, TWA, complying with its primary goal of empowering Tibetan women in exile, has been unwavering, unnerving and enduring with its efforts in steeling Tibetan women to wield their social forte and exhibit and explore their leadership capabilities. The backing by the Kashag (the apex body of the Tibetan Government in Exile) amidst such paradigm is imperative and a breakthrough development.

TWA anticipates concrete, tangible and achievable clauses by the Kashag and we earnestly request all the 43 parliamentarians to wholly support and back the fruition of this initiative by Kashag. In a genuine bid to garner the support of the Tibetan parliamentarians, TWA drafted an appeal letter and handed it to all the members of the parliament including the speaker on the special occasion of the 24th anniversary of Tibetan Women’s Association, requesting them to endorse the bill which will allow the Kashag to proceed in pushing for the viability of the policy.

Tibetan Women’s Association is positive about this landmark development and in sensing the general sentiments of the public we will strengthen our conviction and efforts to ensure the stronger role of Tibetan women in enabling the creation of an empowered Tibetan Society.

Tibetan Women's Association (TWA) has 49 regional chapters and over 15, 000 members outside Tibet. Today, TWA is the second largest Tibetan NGO and the only women's NGO in our exile that advocates human rights for Tibetan women in Tibet and empowerment of Tibetan women in exile, particularly the new refugee women from Tibet.
